Starlight Networks to Provide NEC
with StarWorks Video Networking Software for Video-on-Demand Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California -- September 23, 1994 -- Starlight Networks, Inc.
today disclosed an agreement with NEC to port StarWorks(r) video networking
software to the UP4800 server family supporting PC-9800 series client machines.
StarWorks video networking software manages the storage and delivery of
digital video on Ethernet and FDDI networks. StarWorks supports all the
popular video compression formats on PC-compatible and Macintosh platforms.
NEC will target corporate and educational video-on-demand applications in
Japan.

of Starlight Networks. "NEC will support networked video applications
in their business customer environments and expand their presence in the

Starlight first introduced its StarWorks product in October 1992. Working
together with NEC, Starlight will localize its StarWorks software to support
the Japanese market. StarWorks supports PC- and Macintosh-based video compression
formats such as Indeo, QuickTime, and QuickTime for Windows, MPEG, motion
JPEG, and PLV. NEC will run StarWorks on its UP4800 series servers and PC-9800
series client machines and other personal computers. The product will be
available in 1995. The prototype will be demonstrated at Datashow '94 in
Japan.
